This app is designed to be your private, daily companion for practicing Stoic philosophy. This Privacy Policy explains how your information is handled when you use our application.Our guiding principle is simple: your data is yours, and it should stay with you. We have designed The Inner Citadel to be a private sanctuary. With very specific exceptions for our AI features, your data is stored exclusively on your own device and is not collected by us.A Note on Our PhilosophyA core Stoic concept is the "Inner Citadel"—a mental fortress where you can remain calm and rational, no matter the external chaos. We believe that your privacy is the foundation of this citadel. You cannot reflect freely if you are worried about who is watching. This belief is built into the very architecture of our app.Information We Do Not CollectTo be perfectly clear, we have built The Inner Citadel to function without needing to collect your personal information.We do not require you to create an account.We do not use any third-party analytics services.We do not have a backend database for storing your personal data.Information You Provide and How It’s UsedAny data you provide to The Inner Citadel is processed and stored only on your device, unless you choose to use features that require external processing (like AI) or if you opt-in to Apple's iCloud backup service.Onboarding & "The Span": You may provide your birth date, gender, and lifestyle factors (e.g., exercise frequency, sleep quality) to personalize "The Span" feature. This information is used to calculate your estimated lifespan for the memento mori exercise and is stored exclusively on your device.Daily Vista (Location): You may grant location access to personalize the "Daily Vista" with local weather and overhead flight data. Your location is used for these features and is stored only on your device. We do not track your location continuously.HealthKit Integration: You may grant access to Apple's HealthKit to track your "Mindful Minutes." The Inner Citadel reads and writes Mindful Minutes to help you track your practice. This data is displayed back to you within the app and is never sent off your device.Journal & Pause Tool: Your journal entries and reflections from the Pause Tool are your private thoughts. By default, they are stored only on your device.Artificial Intelligence (AI) FeaturesTo provide features like journal reflections and the Share Sheet analysis, we use powerful AI models. This is the only instance where data you create is sent off your device for processing.Data Sent to AI: The text you submit for analysis (from a journal entry, the Pause tool, or the Share Sheet) is sent to our AI partners.Our AI Partners: Our primary AI partner is Anthropic (Claude models), with OpenAI used as a fallback.Zero-Retention Policy: We have implemented these AI features using the providers' default zero-retention policies. This means your text is used to generate a response and is not stored on their servers or used to train their models.AI Responses: The reflections or suggestions generated by the AI are delivered back to you. We do not automatically save these responses. You have the choice to manually save them to your journal, which is stored locally on your device.Data Storage and Security (Your iCloud)The Inner Citadel is a local-first application. However, you have the option to enable Apple's iCloud service to back up and sync your journal entries across your devices.If you enable this feature, your journal data is stored in your private iCloud account, subject to Apple's security and privacy policies.We, the developers of The Inner Citadel, do not have access to any of the data you store in your personal iCloud account.Your Rights and ChoicesBecause your data resides on your device, you have complete control over it.Access & Correction: You can view and edit all your journal entries in the "Journal" tab. You can edit your onboarding information in the app's "Settings."Deletion: Since we do not maintain user accounts or store your data on our servers, you can delete all your app data at any time by simply deleting The Inner Citadel app from your device.Children's PrivacyThe Inner Citadel is not directed at individuals under the age of 13.
